Bundella sub-catchment is located approximately 100km south west of Gunnedah in the Liverpool Plains. It covers an area of 671km2 and has elevations ranging from 1210m to 300m ASL. Small communities within this sub-catchment include Premer and Bundella.
Bundella sub-catchment is at the headwaters of the Coxs Creek. Bundella sub-catchment is drained by Bundella, Coxs, Tamalie and Deans Mountain Creeks.
Landscapes within this sub-catchment range from black soil floodplains along the creek systems to low sloping basalt hill slopes and rugged mountains of the Liverpool Range, which forms the southern boundary of the Namoi Catchment.
The floodplains and low slopes within this sub-catchment are used for both dryland and irrigated farming of winter crops including wheat, barley and canola with summer crops including sorghum, sunflowers and corn. The hill slopes and steeper lands are used for cattle and sheep grazing and biodiversity conservation.
Part of the upper reach of this sub-catchment is covered by the Coolah Tops National Park and in the lower reach by Trinkey State Forest. The vegetation types within this sub-catchment are extremely diverse ranging from endangered grasslands through to open Box woodlands and Cypress Pine forests to sub-alpine forests and dry rainforests. Coolah Tops National Park is a popular tourist destination because of the diverse range of vegetation, cool climate and many vistas.
The issues within the sub-catchment include flooding, soil erosion, biodiversity conservation, water quality and salinity management.
