Coomoo Coomoo sub-catchment is located within the Liverpool Plains approximately 60km west of Quirindi and 60km south of Gunnedah. It covers an area of 405km2 with elevations ranging from 1200m on the Liverpool Range to 300m near Goran Lake. The town of Spring Ridge and the village of Colly Blue are found within this sub-catchment.
Landscapes within the Coomoo Coomoo sub-catchment range from extensive black soil floodplains to low sloping hill slopes and rugged ranges. There are some areas of light textured sandy soils around the Colly Blue area. The Coomoo Coomoo sub-catchment is drained by Coomoo Coomoo Creek with some minor tributaries including Henry's and Back Creeks. Coomoo Coomoo Creek loses channel definition across the lower floodplain before draining into Goran Lake.
The floodplains and low slopes within this sub-catchment are used for both dryland and irrigated farming of winter cereals including wheat and barley, winter crops including canola, summer crops including sorghum, sunflowers, corn and cotton. The hill slopes and steeper lands are used for cattle grazing and biodiversity conservation.
Spring Ridge State Forest is found within this sub-catchment. Vegetation types range from endangered grasslands through to open Box woodlands and Cypress Pine forests to sub-alpine forests on the Liverpool Range.
The issues within the subcatchment include flooding, soil erosion, biodiversity conservation, and water quality and salinity management.
