Bugilbone sub-catchment is located between Burren Junction and Walgett south of the Kamilaroi Highway and north of the Pilliga, Come-by-Chance to Walgett Road. The villages of Bugilbone and Come-by-Chance are located within this sub-catchment. It covers an area of 2,360 km2 with elevations of around 140m ASL. The sub-catchment is drained by the Namoi River with the assistance of Cubbaroo and Cumberdoon warrambools, Coolibar watercourse, Turragulla and Baradine Creeks Soils within this sub-catchment consists mainly of fertile flat black alluvial floodplains, however, there are pockets of red ridges dotted throughout and large red claypans in the eastern corner near Pilliga. The vegetation varies throughout the area. The main vegetation community is the endangered Coolibah-Black box woodlands which are found throughout the sub-catchment. Other areas are dominated by the Mitchell grasslands, Myall woodlands and Bimble Box-Belah woodlands. There are also many beautiful wetlands and billabongs found along the river. Landuses are predominantly dryland farming and grazing due to a lower rainfall. Irrigated farming and cotton production are also practiced in this area but only on a small scale. The issues within this area are invasive vegetation regrowth, dryland salinity, pasture degradation and riparian management.
