Architecture and Garden Competition 2009
Namoi CMA invited architects, students, designers and green build professionals to submit innovative ideas for the design of a concept (unbuilt) home that keeps the environment in mind from start to finish. The challenge for entries in the competition was to shape the future of green building and facilitate the opportunities that are there for the housing industry to address the challenges.
Namoi CMA thanks the Combined Development Group http://www.windmilldowns.com.au/ for access to a ‘virtual' building block at their Windmill Downs estate and also the Regenesis program http://www.lpsc.nsw.gov.au/
The winners of the Namoi CMA Sustainable Architecture and Garden Design competitions were announced on Thursday The 18Th June in Gunnedah. Matt Davis from Gunnedah was the winner of the Architecture Design award for a clearly articulated holistic design solution, leaving little to chance. Chairman of Namoi CMA Mr Jim McDonald said "this balanced approach uses available materials and building technologies to maximum advantage, and every opportunity for sustainability has been taken. It is immediately applicable to the real-world market, and would find ready acceptance here in the Namoi Catchment. Kathryn Stewart, also from Gunnedah, won the Sustainable Garden award for a thorough understanding of the principles of garden design. "Kathryn illustrates the development of a sustainable garden that relies on wise water use to grow and mature. "The design incorporates plantings that are appropriate to the climate, sources local materials that relate well to the site. This in turn impacts positively on the surrounding environment and adds to the biodiversity of the region," Mr McDonald said. Entries in the Architecture Competition 2009
