Awareness, Attitude and KnowledgeLoads Of Training Available To Farmers and Graziers in 2006 The Namoi Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is offering 13, affordable, short courses valued at over $45,000 (195 seats) to run throughout 2006 until March 2007. These courses cover topics such as grazing, soil health, climate variability (drought) studies and, assessing and using land within its capability. Non government, full time land owners, managers and advisers in the Namoi Catchment are eligible for this offer. Soil Analysis and Fertiliser Management This one-day course covers the biological, physical and chemical features that make a healthy soil. Includes soil testing, nutrient budgets, selection of fertilisers, comparing cost effectiveness and environmental effects of fertilisers
Farmer’s Guide to Managing Climate Risk This one-day workshop will assist farmers, graziers and other land managers to reduce risk by allowing them to monitor and effectively incorporate weather and climate information into farm decision making. Fee includes provision of the publication “The Farmers Guide to Managing Climate Risk.
Landscan Five half days and one full day workshop spread over four to six months. Farmers and land managers will develop skills and knowledge to assess natural resources, match land use to land capability, make informed choices about managing landscapes and allocate resources to balance production, profit and sustainability.
Prograze Eight workshops over eight months, designed to improve the profitability and sustainability of beef and sheep farms. It covers pasture and livestock assessment and plant species recognition skills for managers. It demonstrates how these skills are used, with enhanced knowledge and understanding of the grazing system, to improve grazing management decisions.
