Catchment Detox - Are You Up For the Challenge?
Play Catchment Detox to see if you successfully manage a river catchment and create a sustainable and thriving economy. It's an online game where you're in charge of the whole catchment. You get to decide what activities you undertake - whether to plant crops, log forests, build factories or set up national parks. The aim is to avoid environmental problems and provide food and wealth for the population.
Individual players who register their game prior to September 5, could win a trip for 2 to one of Australia’s most amazing freshwater lakes – Lake Argyle in the Kimberleys. There is a separate prize of ABC merchandise for school groups who register their games too. Click here to register and start playing now!

An Optimisation Framework to Support CMA Investment Decisions at a Catchment Scale
The NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change is working with researchers from other NSW government agencies (Department of Primary Industries and Department of Water and Energy), the Australian Government’s Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and the Crawford School of Economics and Government, The Australian National University to develop and pilot an integrated decision support tool to guide NRM investment decisions at the catchment-scale. The computer-based tool will use biophysical data, land management information and economic data from Choice Modelling surveys to assist CMAs in achieving the most favourable (‘optimised’) catchment-wide NRM outcomes at the least cost. Contributions to the Project’s scoping paper have been made by members of the project research team. Funding for the project has been provided by the NSW Joint Steering Committee. 2008 Dorethea Mackeller Poetry Awards.
It is anticipated that the environmental theme suggested by Namoi CMA for 2008, “Forests, Feathers, Fur and Fins” will encourage students to research biodiversity by studying their local environments and help them to learn about the diversity of native plants and animals. This in turn will help increase youth awareness, attitude and knowledge about our country’s native plants and animals, and the importance of building a sustainable future. This opportunity offers students the chance to express through poetry their thoughts and concerns about this issue in a creative manner.
